  1.  17:1  And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
  2.  17:2  Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto
  3. the house of Israel;
  4.  17:3  And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with
  5. great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers
  6. colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the
  7. cedar:
  8.  17:4  He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried
  9. it into a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants.
  10.  17:5  He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in
  11. a fruitful field; he placed [it] by great waters, [and] set it
  12. [as] a willow tree.
  13.  17:6  And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature,
  14. whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were
  15. under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and
  16. shot forth sprigs.
  17.  17:7  There was also another great eagle with great wings and
  18. many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward
  19. him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might
  20. water it by the furrows of her plantation.
  21.  17:8  It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it
  22. might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that
  23. it might be a goodly vine.
  24.  17:9  Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper?
  25. shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit
  26. thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of
  27. her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it
  28. up by the roots thereof.
  29.  17:10  Yea, behold, [being] planted, shall it prosper? shall
  30. it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall
  31. wither in the furrows where it grew.
  32.  17:11  Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
  33.  17:12  Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these
  34. [things mean]? tell [them], Behold, the king of Babylon is come
  35. to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes
  36. thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;
  37.  17:13  And hath taken of the king's seed, and made a covenant
  38. with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the
  39. mighty of the land:
  40.  17:14  That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift
  41. itself up, [but] that by keeping of his covenant it might
  42. stand.
  43.  17:15  But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors
  44. into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people.
  45. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such [things]? or
  46. shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?
  47.  17:16  [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place
  48. [where] the king [dwelleth] that made him king, whose oath he
  49. despised, and whose covenant he brake, [even] with him in the
  50. midst of Babylon he shall die.
  51.  17:17  Neither shall Pharaoh with [his] mighty army and great
  52. company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and
  53. building forts, to cut off many persons:
  54.  17:18  Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant,
  55. when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these
  56. [things], he shall not escape.
  57.  17:19  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; [As] I live, surely
  58. mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath
  59. broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.
  60.  17:20  And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be
  61. taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will
  62. plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed
  63. against me.
  64.  17:21  And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by
  65. the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all
  66. winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken [it].
  67.  17:22  Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the
  68. highest branch of the high cedar, and will set [it]; I will
  69. crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will
  70. plant [it] upon an high mountain and eminent:
  71.  17:23  In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant
  72. it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a
  73. goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing;
  74. in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
  75.  17:24  And all the trees of the field shall know that I the
  76. LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low
  77. tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree
  78. to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done [it].
